Fitting 40's Era Fenders
Fitting your new fenders requires a little patience. If you're
mounting a rear fender make sure you have the chain guard
you are going to use. All the related parts must be fitted
up to the fender if you are to know what is in need of modification.
For most 40's era rear fenders, you will need two 'S' brackets,
except for a 1940 Scout. Have all your mounting bolts, tail
light, luggage rack if applicable, rear wheel, chain guard
and battery tray, (for alignment). For the front fenders
you will of course need all your mounting bolts, front wheel
and brake assembly completed for alignment and hole location.
Also, while you are aligning your fender you will need a
running light, Indian head or otherwise. Plan on spending
most of the day mounting these fenders. It's worth the time
you spend at this stage because all the paint in the world
won't hide poorly fit fenders.
